Consultation & Representation FAQ

Why do I need an initial consultation?

We understand that dealing with workplace issues can be stressful and overwhelming. The purpose of the initial consultation is to help you understand the laws that apply to your situation and how they relate to the facts of your case. It also gives you the opportunity to speak with an experienced attorney before deciding whether to invest further in legal representation.

How much does the consultation cost?

The firm charges a $350.00 fee for the initial consultation. This includes approximately 30 minutes with an attorney and a limited pre-consultation review of relevant documents that you provide.

What happens during the consultation?

During your consultation, an attorney will:

  • Review the facts and timeline of your situation
  • Explain the relevant laws and how they apply
  • Answer your questions
  • Discuss potential legal strategies
  • Assess whether your matter is one the firm can consider for representation

At the end of the consultation, the attorney will let you know whether the firm is willing to take your case and, if so, under what fee arrangement.

Does paying the consultation fee mean you represent me?

No. Payment for a consultation does not create an attorney-client relationship. Formal representation begins only after both you and the firm agree to proceed under a signed fee agreement.

However, the content of your consultation is fully confidential and protected by the attorney–client privilege. This means you can speak openly during the consultation, and everything you share with the attorney is treated as private and legally protected, even if the firm does not ultimately take your case.

What types of fee agreements does the firm offer?

Our firm uses several types of fee structures depending on the nature and strength of the case:

  • Hourly-Fee Representation – You pay an agreed-upon hourly rate for the attorney’s time. This approach is common when the outcome is uncertain, the matter is ongoing, or damages are difficult to predict.
  • Contingency-Fee Representation – The firm receives a percentage of any recovery only if the case is successful. You pay no attorney’s fees upfront (though you may remain responsible for certain costs or expenses).
  • Hybrid Fee Models – Some matters may be handled through a combination of a reduced hourly rate and a reduced contingency percentage. This approach helps balance upfront costs with shared risk.

Why does the consultation cost $350?

We understand that $350 is a meaningful expense. However, most individuals find it worthwhile to speak with a knowledgeable attorney before committing to a larger financial investment, such as a retainer. The consultation provides a clear assessment of your situation and helps you make an informed decision about next steps.
